Touch of Grey

Alternate title could have been "Every Day I'm Spackling" which is in no way an exaggeration. Our walls are so beat up, it seems like spackle has been our wall's all over primer. Anyway we painted the dining room and family room a light grey color. It's hard to tell from the photos, but it made the room even brighter and the windows really pop!

Here is the before:

Progress:

Luca loves ladders. Say that five times fast...

We decided to paint the living room just a shade darker than the family room area. Again, it's hard to tell from the photos but the paint color was an old, yellowish color. Now it looks crisp with a fresh coat of grey.

There's so much more to share. I am working on being a more consistent blogger :) Thanks for hanging in there! Up next, new floors!

To Each (room) His Own (flooring)

Our first floor has been blessed with five different floorings.
Yes, five. Carpet, slate, ceramic tile, and two types of laminate.
And each one is on its very own level, meaning they are not flush with eachother. Agh...

Exhibit A:

This may be someone's cup of tea, but not ours. So our first major project is new flooring. Just one type for the whole first floor. What a novel idea! We decided to have it professionally installed, but save money by doing the demo ourselves.

Contrary to the photos, M did most of the hard work.
But I made a lovely assistant ;)

It actually came up pretty easily and the padding was a perfect drop cloth for our next project, painting!

More pictures to come!

Happy Valentine's Day

Show Me Your Grill

M's primary reason for buying a house. They don't allow them on the balcony of a one-bedroom apartment. He was so excited that he actually bought the grill before we had officially bought the house. The reviews said it took a long time to put together.
It couldn't possibly take that long...

Five hours later...

He is a happy man. Charcoal on one side, gas on the other.
Now he's on to the next items on his wish list,
and I'm the one asking what's for dinner!

CATching up

Things have been interesting around here over the last week and a half. For example, take day two in the new house. Here are the highlights, and by highlights I mean low-lights.

DAY TWO:
Getting ready for the day, and I realize the cat is missing.
Start looking.

M admits to leaving the door cracked as he was unloading the car.
Start panicking.

M is sure that she is hiding somewhere in the house, although we have looked everywhere, four times.
Start falling apart... Literally on the ground sobbing.
(Try not to judge, I had about 5 minutes of sleep that first night!)

Start searching outside. Keep searching inside.
Start praying for us to find her, or for her to find us!

In the midst of my hysteria, I decide to be proactive.
Start making handwritten signs for all of the neighbors. Ask M to distribute to everyone on our street. "Hi! I'm your new neighbor. Have you seen our cat?" He claims he tried every house, but I think he just stuck some in the mailboxes.

Now I need everyone in the neighborhood to know she's lost.
Start making handwritten signs for all the stop signs in the development. Hand is cramping. Sharpie is running dry. After 25 or so handmade fliers, M leaves to  make copies.

I go upstairs and realize the vanity doesn't extend to the floor.
Start praying. Lay down on the bathroom floor.  FOUND!
Thank you, Lord. Stupid cat.

Call M. He says he thought she was in the house all along, but there was no sense trying to reason with his hyperventilating wife.

M immediately begins to make fun of the artwork on my handwritten signs. (Has yet to stop.) Apparently no one would have been able to identify Luca by the cartoon likeness.

I thought it was pretty good considering the rate at which I was turning those fliers out! Right!?

We're home!

Our Internet will not be up and running until tomorrow. Until I have full access to photos, here is a mini tour of the first floor:

Dining Room

 Family Room

Kitchen

Living Room

These photos show the house as it looked when the previous owners were occupying the home. At this moment, the resemblance is slight. There's a lot less furniture and a ton of boxes!  We can't wait to get things underway this weekend. We have big plans in store for this place!

Happy Friday!

And so it begins...

It's almost here...Tomorrow is the big day... Settlement!
We started this home buying process in early December, but it feels like we've been knee-deep in it forever. We searched online for months and saw countless houses before finding the one that we could call home.

Here it is!

Since going under contract, I have been going crazy with ideas for the new place. Between Pinterest and my own inspiration boards, I feel like I have the place decorated before we have even set foot through the door (much to M's dismay!) I think he is warming up to my ideas :)

I can't wait to share all of our adventures along the way. Be sure to keep checking back for updates! Thanks for stopping by!
